Many artists and beginners in particular, find pure soft hair brushes difficult to work with because they lack sturdiness. Mixed hair brushes can be the perfect solution, as they offer the absorbency of a soft hair brush with the firmness of a hard hair brush.
The Faith of an Artist Paint Brush, made with both soft Goat Hair and the sturdier Weasel Hair, is one of the best examples of these hybrid brushes. The core of the brush is made up of 70% Weasel Hair, surrounded by 30% Goat Hair.
This fantastic combination provides the brush with an excellent absorbency and softness that’s not too soft for less experienced artists to use successfully. The softness and absorbency allows the brush to hold a larger amount of ink than a hard hair brush, allowing the artist to work for longer periods of time.
In addition to the unique structure of the brush the mixed hair provides, it also makes a very versatile instrument. The Faith of an Artist is perfect for both Sumi-e and fine painting. Also, the unique combination makes the brush great for calligraphy, as well. It works particularly well with Kai Shu, Li Shu and Zhuan Shu scripts.
Complementing its multipurpose nature, the brush also is visually striking with its dark wood handle, which highlights the characters carved near the top. The black portion at the end of the handle creates a striking contrast to the pure white goat hair.
At the tip are the characters Jing Pin Da Ru Yi, which is the brush’s name in Chinese. Following those are the three characters Zhou Xiaobing, which is not only the master brush maker who made the brush, but also a very dear friend of the family.
